Geography of Modern Tourism in a Desert Climate: The Experience of Dubai
Abstract
The article examines the role of physical-geographic characteristics in shaping the modern tourism model of the Emirate of Dubai. It analyzes the region's spatial characteristics, the unique features of its coastline and desert areas, and the climatic parameters that determine the seasonality of tourism activities. The potential of arid landscapes as a fundamental resource for the development of adventure, eco-, and ethno-cultural tourism is assessed. Current statistical data regarding tourist numbers and hotel sector performance indicators are presented. The network of protected areas, spatial planning, and sustainable tourism concepts are analyzed in detail. The study concludes that climatic and landscape constraints have been successfully integrated into the tourism product through infrastructure development, balanced spatial planning, and the implementation of environmental initiatives.
