From Academic Vocabulary to Communikative Practice: The University Context in Teaching English for Academic Purposes
Abstract
The abstract examines the potential of utilizing university-related content as a resource for developing learning materials for English for Academic Purposes (EAP). It justifies the integration of work on academic vocabulary, collocations, and contextual usage with communicative tasks. Using teaching materials developed on the basis of information about the Educational and Scientific Center for International Education and Cooperation at TNPU, the author demonstrates a step-by-step transition from mastering thematic vocabulary to its application in academic contexts. The system of tasks aimed at developing the lexical, receptive, and productive components of foreign language academic competence is analyzed.
